Small Steps

My husband and I retired early from teaching and chose a simpler life. We’re spending most of our time getting our house in proper working order (winter is coming…) so painting needs to wait until things settle down a bit, but it will be worth it.

Until then, I have time to get organized behind the scenes. I missed blogging, so I simplified my website quite a bit. It’s less complicated and I don’t feel as much pressure to keep on top of the logistics any more. I’d rather enjoy some time to write about the things I love.

At about the same time, an opportunity popped up that would take care of the business side of my online studio work. After a few years of working with Newfoundland Canvas to scan and create prints of my paintings, they asked if I might be interested in using their platform to sell my prints. Um, yes!

So that’s what I did, and I love it. Their website is ideal for artists who want to keep things simple while offering many more options for their clients. I could never do all of this so easily on my own, so it’s been a huge relief.

It’s a start. I haven’t made any sales yet but hopefully that will come as I share more of my work online. Is it always awkward for artists to share their work? If you’re an artist, how do you share your work (and make sales) without feeling like you’re tooting your own horn?

There are times when I feel like imposter syndrome makes me feel like I’m a bit delusional, but I think that’s true for a lot of people. And besides, life is what you make it, and I like making art and sharing it. Hopefully if it gets to be too much, someone will be kind enough to let me know.

Until then, have a look at my shop and let me know what you think. Is it easy to navigate? Can you find both paper and canvas prints? Can you find the “preview” option to see what the prints look like in different sizes on the wall?
